Worked examples of how to correctly fill the academic subjects taught and/or researched are given below. You will also need to ensure that the staff classification for the appointment is correct before attempting to complete this data entry.
This data is entered into the Qualifications screen in a similar way to the highest qualification held. However, you must put 'HESA' in the Qualification box.
The minimum requirement is that 'Qualification' is filled out and there is a value in 'Academic Discipline 1'. 'Academic Discipline 2' is optional.
Qualification: HESA - Aca. Disc taught/researched
Course name: LEAVE BLANK
Academic Discipline 1: Select one from the link (mandatory)
Academic Discipline 2: Optionally select a second subject from the list
Use of the 'Comments' field
If you are unable to match the subject to any of the Academic Discipline codes, write the subject in the comments box. This should be a last resort because the HR Analytics Team will have to decide how to map the subject in the comments box to a code in the Academic Discipline box and may query this with you before the HESA return.
You can also complete the comments box if you have managed to match the subject to a code in Academic Discipline, but would like to record more detailed information for local use.
