People Management: managing new starters, changes and leavers

On 4 November 2020, Personnel moved from the Back Office to the Portal (now called People Management). A new training programme is being designed for new system users, which will be available soon.  In the meantime, if you require urgent access to CoreHR to complete personnel tasks, please contact us.

This training has two components:

  1. People Management eLearners (online): Complete the four People Management eLearners to receive Personnel Administrator ‘edit’ access in CoreHR
  2. Workshop (via Teams): You will be invited to attend a workshop once you’ve been actively using the system for a couple of months.

eLearners: Half a working day (estimate), depending on the user.

eLearners can be accessed anywhere with an internet connection, at any time and completed in stages, if required.

We recommend users take regular breaks and aim to complete the eLearners in a day.

People Management Navigation

Overview of the People Management functionality in CoreHR and guidance on the basic navigation of this system, including identifying where key information can be located.

Appointing - new starters and new appointments

System overview of how to appoint all existing staff into new appointments, including adding new records for those individuals who are new to the university, or rehires.

Introduction to staff changes

Make personal, appointment and pay changes to staff records.

Ending appointments

End appointments in CoreHR, including when someone is leaving one appointment of many held or leaving the University.


This hands-on workshop will help to consolidate your learning and give you the opportunity to ask questions and get additional guidance on key processes and system steps.

Please note that this workshop is currently delivered remotely, via MS Teams.

The link below will take you to the University's course booking system, CoSy. Once you've booked a course, you will receive a confirmation email. You will also receive an email to confirm that your system access has been updated, following completion of all four eLearners.

Tips for completing the eLearners

  • Some eLearners include a test at the end to help embed the learning. You have up to five attempts to achieve the required 80% pass mark
  • We recommend you take notes throughout the course to help you complete the test
  • Once you have completed your course and have returned to the course list in CoSy, you may need to refresh the page to see your updated course status

Attend a workshop 

Workshops are currently being delivered via Microsoft Teams. Our HRIS training team will contact you once you have been using CoreHR People Management for approximately two months.
